About Iron Shots (IV/IM)
Iron injections supplement iron-poor blood. This makes our intravenous (IV) and intramuscular (IM) Iron Shots an ideal treatment choice for those who are deficient in iron and/or unable to orally ingest tablets. They are also suitable for individuals with health conditions who may require larger dosages of supplementary iron than usual.
Low iron levels occur when the body is unable to absorb enough iron from food, commonly as a result of poor nutrition or poor absorption, and/or after instances of blood loss. Additionally, certain stomach-related conditions may impair iron absorption, leading to iron deficiency.
Aside from these, individuals suffering from long-term kidney disease can benefit from iron injections.
Iron is found in our red blood cells and carries oxygen throughout the body. The Iron Shot (IV/IM) supplements our natural iron reserves, which are used for the purposes of red cell production.
Several factors affect the body's natural iron levels. The main ones are:
Pregnancy typically increases the body’s iron requirements due to the extra resources needed during pregnancy. Women with multiple pregnancies and/or borderline low iron levels prior to pregnancy are at a higher risk of iron deficiency. Pregnant and lactating women can receive Iron IM Shots, as long as this is cleared by their doctor beforehand.
Benefits of Iron Injections
Our Iron Shots benefit many different things. They also increase energy levels and complement our Vitamin D Shot.
Iron injections are also safe. Rarely, however, our Iron Shots can result in a number of side effects. Whilst uncommon, a change in taste - as well as gastrointestinal pains, nausea and cramps - can result. Contact your IV/IM practitioner if these symptoms persist for more than 48 hours.
